Hi all......I have spent most of my life in Kolkata. Now I am spending the rest of the years in Chennai.I used to study in a private school run by Andhra association in Kolkata. So I was only exposed to Telugu and Tamil children. And till my school ended and college life started, I did not know any Bengali. When I joined college everything suddenly changed. I could not understand Bengali language my teachers and class mates spoke. When some one said "Ankho" a simple word meaning Mathematic problem, i could not understand. And I found a Malayali friend named Baby facing the same problem. So Baby and myself used to go and sit in the lawns when classes were going on. Finally I decided too much was too much and decided to master the language.I had a basic knowledge of Bengali letters as I had studied "Barno porichay" the basic Bengali learning book for kids written by the famous Iswar Chandra Vidyasagar. Hi all............This is remembering my childhood and early teenage years in Kolkata. We lived in a tall three  storied building with about six flats. Mostly South Indians inhabited the building. Mr. Nandy the caretaker of the building lived in the top floor. Mr.Paul, the owner of the building was in Bangladesh.  Nandy babu was the caretaker of the house and was called in for any problems we faced. He also collected rent and probably deposited same in the owner's bank account.I remember ,he had several kids. One four year daughter of Nandy babu was one day killed by a tram of all things.  We had traffic both ways on the main road in front of our house. And the famous Kolkata tram consisting of two compartments, first class and second class ran along the middle of the road. They ran on electricity supplied by lines and cables from above. A very slow mode of travel, but imagine the pollution factor was nil! Those were glorious days. My father used to travel in a tram to his office

I pray to you,the sacred fair Goddess. Bless me with long life, wealth, learning. O devi, the  consort of Lord Siva (Eswar),bless me with the whole earth ,mother." Actually Kali is the destroyer of evil demons, evil forces and is the fierce and angry form of Goddess Durga. But look at Ma Bhabatarini, the goddess of Dakshineswar in Kolkata, worshipped by  Sri Ramkrishna Thakur and Sri Sri Sarada Ma .She looks so calm and beautiful, not in the least fierce. And she has her right leg over the abdomen of her consort, Lor
